Case Study: Large System Migration

We recently worked with a large payer to migrate a large system platform over the course of several years.

Client:  Twin Cities-based health insurance payer.

Initiative:  Extremely large system platform migration spanning the entire company over several years.

Upton Hill’s Role:  Fulfilled many leadership roles within a large vendor outsourcing project, including Program/Project Management, Business Analysis, and Technical Architecture.  Our team led a diverse set of business area implementations, including Claims, Customer Service, Finance, Appeals Management, Medicare/Medicaid, and Pharmacy.  We also provided leaders on functions such as User Security, Conversion, Org Change Management, and Data Warehousing/Analytics.

Client Benefits:  The company has completed the majority of the project ahead of schedule and under budget – no small feat on an initiative of this size.  This transition will enable them to save IT costs through economies of scale, as well as allowing quick responses to trends in the market.  Upton Hill is continuing to support the implementation as the remaining customers are migrated to the system.

Our Value:  We are willing to work with our clients in whatever mode is comfortable for them.  We can take on full projects ourselves, or we can bring our health care and IT expertise to an initiative the client has already set up.  In this case, the client needed a quick response to filling key leadership roles on a massive project with extremely tight timelines.  Our leaders were able to successfully liaison between the payer’s business and technical teams and the vendor’s staff.  Due to our focus in health care, we were able to quickly provide them with experienced, knowledgeable, and collaborative team members who did not require any time to ramp up their health care knowledge.
